A Downtown Sioux Falls Hotel Undergoes a Complete Transformation
The Hilton Garden Inn Downtown, located at 201 E. Eighth St., has undergone a major renovation and rebranding, emerging as The Catlin Hotel. This transformation is part of Hilton's Tapestry collection, a group of over 125 independent hotels across the nation.
The hotel's extensive renovation encompasses every aspect, offering a unique experience. The name 'Catlin' pays homage to catlinite, a quartzite-like stone found beneath Sioux Falls, and is associated with George Catlin, a lawyer, painter, author, and traveler known for his 1830s portraits of Native Americans. His wife, Clara, inspired a private bar and dining room, which has been a hit, with guests raving about the space.
The lobby, a recent addition, has been significantly expanded, featuring a modern, high-end design with galaxy-themed wallpaper. The space now includes a lounge area, providing overflow seating from the nearby Starbucks cafe, which was reduced in size. The fitness center has also been enhanced, growing by 300 square feet with additional equipment.
All guest rooms have been completely overhauled, focusing on creating a tranquil environment. New features include entertainment centers, swivel TVs, upgraded mattresses, and enhanced bathroom fixtures. The hotel's banquet spaces and on-site Crave American Kitchen & Sushi Bar have also been renovated.
Despite a lower overall occupancy, the hotel's strategic location in downtown Sioux Falls has made it a desirable destination, especially during the spring and summer months. The hotel's staffing is robust, with some team members transitioning to the new Highpoint Hotel, managed by Hegg Cos. Further improvements are on the horizon, including patio upgrades, new paint, and siding, ensuring an ongoing transformation.
